Ohana Kennels is a family owned & operated Indoor Dog Daycare and Boarding facility located in Santa Clara, CA.

Our first customers started coming in August of 2015, and business continued to increase every month. We started out with just myself, and my son, Daniel. We quickly became overworked! We did not expect to ramp up so quickly. By March of 2016 we added my childhood friend, Heide, to the crew. While this helped, we were all working a lot of hours. Because we are family owned, we can call in others to help out! My husband has been seen sitting at the front desk, or cleaning the lobby. My best friend has been in to help us clean when really busy. My daughter in law, Megan, has worked the front desk. Then came late 2019 and we added Daniel’s good friend, Brandon. The two also worked together at another kennel. The experiences they had, helped us decide what we did, and did not want to do at our facility. Once we ramped up and had the right 4 people in place, we had a good schedule going, things were moving along…and bam, the world shut down. This hit us very hard with our boarding business. We went from having multiple dogs overnight, every night, to none! Our biggest loss is not having Heide with us every day. She also could not take it anymore and sold her house and left the area. Daniel and I could not have done it without Heide joining us when she did. She is a huge reason we were so successful, so quickly. We wish her all the best in her new home and laid back surroundings! We have managed to stay afloat for a year now. We have done this with about 90% of our business being daycare only. Again, we are extremely thankful to our customers that continued to come! The other thing we benefited from was all of the adoptions that have happened during quarantine. We have gained quite a few new daycare customers from rescues and puppies! We cannot thank all of our daycare customers enough. You are the reason we are still here! But….we are really starting to feel the financial impact of not having any boarders. We need people to travel! We do thank the customers that have gone on trips also, and we hope you keep traveling and leaving your dogs with us. We have also lost a few of our customers that have left the state or area, for a better future. We wish them all well, but we miss our dogs! Let’s all hope for a full opening of the country soon so we can continue living and enjoying our lives. Here’s to a MUCH better 2021!
